I will be ruthlessly honest here. If somebody hated pine and spruce it was me. It's soft as cotton candy no chatoyancy. Melts under pressure. What fingernail test. Would touch it just with pillows. What luxury? I thought it's pure firewood. Good for nothing. By design you need heavy extremely durable thick sealing just to "combat" the basics. Putting a key on it should be like whispering. No chatoyancy no fractals. None of the universe golden ratio looking back on you. Everything it's bad in furniture pine and spruce encompass it. Janka hardness. Everything is bad. Maybe I overly dramatize it but yes. However maybe my open hatred toward it bound to cheap craftsmanship as most use this .....
So maybe the universe sent me this heritage beams that spent as the KovaKelo wood. Not referring to our brand name but the true meaning of the Finnish name. The pine the century old wood that dies and looks over the forest and grays. It's different. It's saying having an old car or having the first Porsche ever built. Again telling you. If somebody not hates even loathes the idea of pine I got tamed here like a mustang at a Rodeo. :)
Seriously a century old pine especially spending another "century" holding a palace on its shoulders it's an absolutely different universe. All its weaknesses become assets. Its softness forms valleys and ridges like micro mountains. Paired with its soft structure and paired with the right sealing it invites light. It lets light bounce stay for more. Look at the image it just glows from within. None of hardwoods can do this.
The roots are like the business tycoon. Strong that fought battles and crushed time itself and won. Here poetically it's a motherly softness. Like skin of a young woman. You're afraid to touch it hard so she'll cry. Its softness gave the physics that hardwood can't replicate. The hard part here was to preserve the relic grade nature of it and keeping the beam as original as it was. the colors ...the full color spectrum of the mold and bacteria. Freezing it in time so the colors and color spectrum are something never seen regarded to heritage beams. Pushing to the maximum to showcase its true nature.

For its first hundred years, it stood as a towering monolith in the freezing, wind-swept Apuseni Mountains, watching over the forest from above. Almost or similar as our name: "kovakelo." When it was finally harvested and milled by Oradea’s legendary Darvas-La Roche company, it was reborn. It traveled down Crisul Repede river soaked with water. It was elevated into the high society of Belle Époque Oradea, integrated into the structural spine of the city's most luxurious Secession-era apartments. For another 120 years, it stood quietly in the ceiling, absorbing the ambient energy, the history, and the whimsy of Oradea’s upper class. Watching over the families, artist and art galleries beneath it or the nearby park in the center.
The Biochemistry of a Third Life
Now, this heritage timber enters its third revival. Time, pressure, and indoor micro-climates physically altered the biochemistry of the wood. The rhythmic, lateral scars left by the original Darvas-La Roche sawblades have softened over a century into highly tactile, rolling ridges. As the internal sap slowly crystallized over decades, it locked those vivid copper and golden tones permanently into the cellular walls. Preserved flawlessly under our zero-epoxy mandate, the wood remains entirely breathable, allowing you to physically touch the history carved into its face.
