As we deal in volume, we rarely process single-item sales directly through the website. While individual acquisitions are available, the prices here are indicative. For those seeking biophilic monoliths and roots, our pieces are phytomined in Oradea, Transylvania, from Triassic-age thermal waters for extreme chatoyancy, vivid colors, and deep saturation. Botanical assets "rarer than a diamond". We fulfill B2B inquiries at volume, with global logistics fully managed. Contact us to access our complete inventory.

032 The Oak That Never Slept | Transylvanian Geothermal Architectural Slab | Phytomining
The Artist's Rejection
This specific piece carries a highly unusual provenance: it was originally commissioned by a local artist in Băile Felix, only to be given to us. The reason? The wood was simply too intense. The twist within, the visual rhythm of the grain, the chaotic depth of its medullary rays, and the raw, radiating energy of the slab completely overpowered the artist's space. It was not a calm, passive canvas; it was aggressively alive. When you look at the frantic, tightly packed cellular structure of Item 032, you are looking at a biological anomaly forged by extreme geothermal circumstances.
The "Oak That Never Slept"
To understand why this oak we need to understand more.. Is so incredibly dense and visually hyper-active, you have to look at the subterranean physics of where it grew. Sure not all trees in this area look like this but look at the science. Normal trees enter a deep state of freezing dormancy during the winter. But this oak grew directly over the shallow crust of the Triassic aquifers near Baile Felix/ Oradea near not far from Peța River. At meters deep, the earth here simply does not "freeze|. The earth stays wormer. While trees just 50 kilometers away shut down and slept under the ice, the roots of this trees poetically speaking : "stayed awake". The real science : Fed by the subterranean thermal warmth, it continued to pump water and minerals year-round. Basements in Oradea area are actually significantly warmer than 100km away.
Biologically and poetically, this is the oak that "never slept". It accumulated a double lifetime staying "awake". It stayed in heated, hot soil year round instead of ice cold.
The Ice Age Sanctuary & The Betfia Crater
This geothermal warmth or hot swamps is not a recent phenomenon; it is a deep-time geological fact. During the brutal deep freezes of the Ice Ages, this exact shallow-crust pocket in the Oradea region served as a life-saving sanctuary. Prehistoric fauna gathered by the thousands around the nearby to survive the lethal winters, drawn by the same radiating thermal heat that kept this oak's roots "awake" centuries later.
Even today, the basements of buildings in this specific area stay noticeably warmer than the surrounding regions basements. This slab is a physical monument to that ancient, life-sustaining heat.
The restlessness of compressing 2 lifetimes in one.
Poetically speaking (rooted in science) we say that these restless whimsy hurricane like golden grain pattern. "Not being able to sleep" for a century. Sure not factual … but we love the poetry of it. The restlessness. We see it on the golden patterns. Like constant movement in a sleepless night. Being in the studio passing by we just refer to it : the oak that never slept. We have 2 pieces.
The deep, golden-amber face explodes with intense chatoyancy—a 3D optical illusion created by the overlapping, highly stressed cellular layers. To honor the raw intensity that intimidated its first buyer, we applied our strict zero-epoxy mandate. The vertical tracking cuts and the intense, tiger-like grain are sealed exclusively with a breathable, micro-porous organic oil. This locks the wood into hygroscopic equilibrium while allowing you to physically touch the raw energy of a tree that refused to rest.
Spatial Dominance & Architectural Curation
A slab with this much built-in kinetic energy is not meant to blend into the background. Featuring heavy structural backing bars, it is engineered to be mounted as a commanding, suspended architectural installation, a massive biophilic wall anchor, or a brutalist mirror frame. We have 2. Through our B2B Sovereign Inventory, elite designers can access this exact, historically verified asset to inject raw, geothermal tension into luxury executive spaces, private estates, and bespoke gallery showrooms.
