So strange. I shouldn't swear and I should repeat frantically bespoke this and bespoke that but the truth is different: old architectural pieces are like treated like trash. Absolutely nobody cares and they do extremely bad things here. Sure a poet living in a house or some fancy 100 year old architect building the house and the value within it's debatable. Depends. Like fine art and sculpting or drawing a drawing or painting. It can be inflated in price bounding it to a name case one day it will worth more. The new bitcoin and cryptocurrency. Its value is its hype. It depended on the curators and art critics and galleries.
We see the truth in it but one is for sure. A dinosaur bone or a meteorite it's unique because it's mathematical. An old beam has its raw power not within its bespoke furniture this and that's or heritage this and that. It's pure science. The joke. Even the wood grown a century ago was different. It's true. The sugars within the nails creating tannins... the wars fought by over sugars or God knows what resources by bugs, mold, bacteria shaped altered the wood. The layers the hues saturations the vibrancy it's different. It's truth.
You see hundreds if not hundreds of years of truths that's why these beams feel heavy. The beam comes from Ulman Palace. Look the play of the hard and softened parts. The canyons formed. With a good camera or looking it closer you see canyons. The light bounces in between. It shapes ranges and light behaves different. It stays more. It just bounces more. That's why we made all possible to not even touch it and preserve as it is. We preserved its truth.
Being an artist or craftsman or woodworker shouldn't be about flexing the big machinery you have or brutal raw power of kilowatts or Kuka robots. Not that we don't do that without a shame :) But true craftsmanship it's about being humble and letting yourself aside. Not creating but witnessing.
The Mountain, The River, and The Palace
This "KovaKelo" began its life battling freezing blizzards and violent winds in the Apuseni Mountains over two centuries ago. Its incredibly tight growth rings are the biological record of that struggle. After decades of survival, it was harvested and floated down the Crișul Repede river to the famous Darvas-La Roche sawmills in Tileagd. From there, it was elevated into history. This exact beam served as the final upper ceiling structure in Oradea’s iconic Ullmann Palace. It stood silently in the dark, absorbing the energy of that Secessionist masterpiece for 120 years.
Visual Spectacle & Iron Oxidation
Look closely at the historical evidence permanently scarred into this wood. The original forged iron nails still pierce the upper geometry. The rhythmic, century-old mechanical saw marks cross the entire face of the beam. Notice the deep black staining around the nail entry points. That is not dirt or artificial coloring; it is pure chemical iron oxidation. Antique metal reacted with the natural tannins over decades, creating a completely unreplicable, dark organic pigment. We captured these glowing, authentic colors under warm architectural light with zero color grading. It hold a Palace at its Sholders: serving as a structural element within the upper ceiling. First it witnessed the ups and down's of the Oradea upper-class , later the artis studios beneath it.
