This particular piece I got from a dear friend. It was in a workshop for decades. The actual challenge was the true colors. Some parts were darkened, some parts chatoyant and golden. As expected, normal polyurethane and epoxy or classical varnishes would have made it like cotton candy or cheap varnish. It would have reflected the light just the upper parts.
It needed deep penetration so the wood especially is protected from within. It needed a finish that let light within like subsurface penetration. Basically, we let the light go deeper, not reflecting back immediately from the surface. Therefore, the true colors are way more rich in tone and vibrancy.
In the long run, with thin finishes like polyurethane and epoxy, the biggest problem would have been absolutely destroying the patina and hundred-year-old look. Spot penetration with these finishes is impossible. You need to sand it down, that might... basically for sure it would have destroyed the colors and texture.
However, Oak's Janka hardness is off the charts, we needed a sealing that matches it. A finish that resists wine, coffee, or keys thrown upon it, and it can be spot-finished easily. We managed to match it with the right material and it's within the absolute safest category, categories that the European Union can give.
Monolithic Geometry & Dual Patina
Item 001 is a heavy, stepped architectural block carved from a single piece of dense, historic Carpathian oak. Its form features a deliberate dual-texture profile. The upper section remains in its raw, centuries-old state, showing a deep dark oxidized patina, original saw marks, and historical iron markings. The lower section reveals the warm honey interior of the wood, displaying cathedral grain patterns and distinct ray flecks. Multiple historical boreholes cut through the body, recording the exact mechanical joinery of its past structural life.
Raw Photons & Cellular Biochemistry
Every visual detail in these high-resolution images was captured under neutral, warm light without any artificial color grading. What you see is the true optical depth of untouched oak biochemistry. Over decades of atmospheric exposure and natural cellular oxidation, the timber developed vivid color contrast—from deep espresso hues down to glowing golden amber. Subtle micro-fissures and entomological channels cross the surface. These organic markers soften artificial room lighting while serving as biological proof of century-old provenance.
