This smooth, architectural block is a physical photograph of a 100-year subterranean journey. Unlike our heavily scarred architectural salvage, this specific tree lived a relatively calm life. It grew without the violent stress that causes burls, allowing us to showcase the pure, naked skin of the timber. The sweeping, flawless natural edge invites human touch. Yet, beneath this calm exterior lies a spectacular biological record of the earth it grew in, captured perfectly in the striking dark channels running through the grain.  

 

Triassic Minerals & Biological Defense


The deep, dark staining you see concentrated in the wood’s natural geometry is not a stain or an applied dye. It is a century-long accumulation of heavy minerals. This timber grew in the unique geological basin of Oradea—a region where the earth's crust is unusually shallow, allowing ancient, Triassic-era thermal waters to rise to the surface. Just like the famous thermal basins under Sofia, the subterranean waters of the Peța River and Felix springs are heavily saturated with iron (Fe2 and Fe3). As the tree drank this water over decades, the heavy minerals acted. That biological warfare created the mesmerizing, rose patina locked in this block.
